Getting Started with ThinkKits

Your guide to navigating the platform, finding schools, understanding funding, and making data-driven decisions.

1

Create Your Account

Sign up for a free Explorer account at thinkkits.com. You'll need:

  • A work email address
  • Your name and organization
  • Your role (educator, vendor, researcher, grant writer, etc.)

During onboarding, we'll ask about your goals — this personalizes your dashboard with the most relevant tools and data.

Tip

Using a school or district email? Your organization may already have a team account. Check with your administrator before creating a new one.

2

Explore Your Dashboard

After signing in, you'll land on your personalized dashboard. It's organized into five Tool Stacks — each focused on a different part of the education data landscape:

Click any stack to see the tools inside. Each tool card shows which tier is required — look for the green "Explorer" badge for tools available on the free plan.

3

Look Up Your First School

Use the School Lookup tool to search for any U.S. public school by name, NCES ID, city, or state. You'll see:

  • Demographics: Enrollment, grade span, locale, race/ethnicity breakdown
  • Funding: Title I status, per-pupil expenditure, federal allocations
  • Poverty indicators: Free/reduced lunch rates, SAIPE estimates
  • Contact: Address, phone, district information

Explorer accounts get 3 school lookups per day. Starter accounts get 25, and Professional accounts get 100.

4

Save Schools to Your Watchlist

Found a school you want to track? Click the bookmark icon to save it. On Explorer, you can save up to 3 schools. Paid tiers let you create named watchlists — organize by territory, deal stage, or any grouping that works for you.

Pro Tip

On Starter and above, you'll get email alerts when your saved schools receive new funding allocations or other data changes. It's the easiest way to stay on top of your territory.

5

Check Funding Eligibility

Use the Funding Finder to see which federal programs a school qualifies for:

  • Title I (ESEA Section I): Schools with high percentages of low-income students
  • Title IV-A: Well-rounded education, safe schools, and technology programs
  • IDEA Part B: Special education — supports multi-sensory and IEP-aligned materials
  • Title III: English language learner support programs
  • E-Rate: Discounts on internet access and telecommunications

Need to justify a purchase? Professional tier includes the Justification Report Generator — AI-powered reports with compliance language, per-pupil math, and audit-ready citations.
